Our Mission
To foster unity among nursing students nationwide, champion professional development, elevate academic standards, and advocate for student welfare and standard healthcare access.
National Reach
Operating across more than 60 university chapters, NUNSA coordinates representation with regulatory authorities and shapes health advocacy policies across the country.
About NUNSA
The purpose of creating NUNSA was to integrate Nursing students across Universities in Nigeria and to allow its members to take their vision and make it a reality. NUNSA allows its members to create an impact at the local, National and International level on many global health topics through carrying out activities.
The Nigerian Universities Nursing Students’ Association (NUNSA) is the only official pre-professional body that caters for the welfare and academic progress of all Nigerian Universities students studying to be future Nurses across the nation and in the Diaspora. Our main aim is to motivate and inspire the pristine learning and practice of Nursing in tandem with global standards.
To attain this, we function under the mentorship of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN), the motherly care of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), the tutelage of the International Council of Nurses (ICN), and in affiliation with the West Africa Nursing Students Association (WANSA).
Historical Legacy
Founded at University of Ibadan
In 1966, a group of students founded NUNSA at the University of Ibadan, a year after the start of the Nursing degree in the University in 1965, to represent Nigerian University Nursing Students in Nigeria and the Diaspora, bringing the students together as one body to discuss ideas, share information, and voice their opinions and concerns.
Resuscitation & Revival at UNEC
Following a hiatus after the tragic passing of Mr. Babalola, dedicated student leaders and academic mentors walked tirelessly to connect all active chapters and resuscitated the national body at the University of Nigeria Enugu Campus (UNEC), adopting delegate voting and zoning structures.
International Integration & ICN Status
NUNSA attained full membership status of the African Novice Nurses and Students' Initiative (ANNSI) and the International Council of Nurses (ICN), creating a global network for research collaborations, internships, and professional alignment.
National Advocacy & Standing Committees
Today, NUNSA coordinates over 50,000 members across 60+ university chapters. Through its 7 standing committees (including SCOPAS and SCOCFE), NUNSA champions public health campaigns, financial education, professional development workshops, and academic excellence nationwide.
